5. Your work

General:  All pottery makes need to be labelled with initials or a number on the base of each pot, or if too wet, a Post-It-Note left next to each item, before leaving the studio.

Allow 3 to 4 weeks for your pottery to be fired and ready for collection. Ensure you leave an email and telephone number for us to notify you when your pottery is ready to collect.

While studio staff take every precaution to handle pieces carefully when loading and unloading the kiln, please understand that dry greenware is extremely fragile and that there are always risks inherent in firing ceramic work. The studio cannot accept any liability for damage occurring to ceramic pieces.

All pottery equipment, clays and glazes are provided by Langtons Pottery. We do not allow you to bring your own glazes or clay.

Taster Pottery Making Experience:  You will produce approximately 2 to 3 pieces of work in the 2.5 hour session.  Generally, 2 hand build pieces and 1 thrown piece.  You are welcome to just hand-build and make a larger or 3rd hand piece item.

At the end of the Taster Pottery Experience you will choose from a range of glazes. One glaze colour per item.  Langtons Pottery will glaze these for you. Your pieces will be ready to collect in 4 weeks after your Taster Pottery Experience date.

You are welcome to book another session (with 15% discount) and come back within the next 4 weeks, sub to availability, and glaze your own work with more than one colour per item.  Unglazed pieces will only be held in the studio for 4 weeks. After this they will be available for collection unglazed.

Six Week Pottery Adventure:  You can produce unlimited number of work up to an area of two kiln shelfs  (40cm diameter and a height of 30cm) which is made and glazed during the class.

If you are directly following on with another 6 week course you are welcome to leave your work in progress on the shelves in the studio.

If you are finishing up your week 6 Pottery Adventure all pieces must be ready to bisque fire by the penultimate week, ready to glaze in your last class.  Please allow up to 4 weeks to come and collect your fired pieces.

Only pieces made and glazed in the studio will be fire in the kiln.  Please speak to a member of staff if you would like to make other arrangement.   Please note that Langtons Pottery does not offer a kiln firing service only.

6. The Drying Process:  Please be aware that all work requires time to dry fully before it can be bisque fired.  A one week turn around is generally allowed for before firing but please be aware that drying time does depend on the size and thickness of each piece and the weather conditions, so drying can take longer especially in the cold winter months.

 7. Client Registration/ Health and Safety Form:  Everyone attending Langtons Pottery must fill in a Client Registration/ Health and Safety Form sent to you with your booking confirmation email. Please can you sign and return to us prior to your session via email or bring with you.  Thank you, it’s part of our health and safety procedure.
